UPDATE: 2021 Advanced Group Lessons Session #2

Here is an update for everyone registered for Advanced Group Lessons, Session #2, slated to begin originally during the second week of January.

Eastern Ontario has experienced an uptick in COVID-19 cases, and South Nation Archery is adhering to the “stay at home” advice from the Ford government; we are not encouraging you to leave your home in order to attend class, as this is non-essential travel.

We are hopeful that classes can start on February 17-18 and run 6 weeks of classes.  We will update our students directly via e-mail again as we draw nearer to the end of the extended lock-down date of February 10th.

Please remember that our retail shop is allowed to be open for your equipment needs, including tuning, but that we are not encouraging private in-person lessons.  If you have the capacity, Kathy Millar continues to coach via Skype.  Contact her via e-mail for details if you wish to start private lessons over the internet.

Larry and Kathy hope that all of you are safe, well, and adhering to guidelines.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Mail matches, leagues and Group Lessons in 2021

South Nation Archery, in eastern Ontario, is affected by the COVID-19 GREY Zone restrictions until at least January 10th.  The retail store will remain open for regular business as allowed under the government restrictions, starting on January 04th at 1pm.

ALL private in-house lessons are cancelled for the week of January 04-09 inclusive.  Further information will be posted on our website.  Check back for more details after January 8th, 2021.

Note that our tournament slated for January 10th has been postponed to Sunday, February 14th.

ADVANCED GROUP LESSONS :  Classes are POSTPONED for at least 2 weeks and WILL NOT BEGIN on January 13-14, 2021.  All those students pre-registered for these classes will be contacted directly by e-mail with specifics.

Indoor mail matches and leagues will not start until the lock-down has been lifted.  When that happens, participants will have to reserve a one-hour time slot, in advance, once per week.  Contact Kathy or Larry to reserve a spot when you see the announcement to do so.

As written previously:

Friday night BEGINNER GROUP LESSONS:  Session #2 is cancelled.  Should COVID-19 conditions stabilize, then beginner group lessons for Session #3 will start on Friday, March 05, 2021.  More information will follow.  You may pre-register, but payment will not be necessary until March 1st.

2021 Sessions and private lessons will increase by $5.00.

You will see the dates and shooting times on our Events Page.

Only 4 people will be shooting for any start time; 2 archers per line.  There will be no spectators.

2020 Candle-Master Quintin Fawcett

During our COVID-19 delayed Session #4, we held our annual candle event on October 28-29.  The archer must shoot out the flame without touching the arrow.  It takes quite a lot of skill and calmness.

This year’s Master is Cadet Compound archer Quintin Fawcett who shot THREE candles successfully.  Congratulations, Quintin!  You are the youngest archer to take out 3 in one class!

Then we had quite the family feud in our Thursday night 7pm classes:  all 3 parents shot out at least 1 candle flame (Connie Siedule shot out 2 of them), but none of the children in the families was able to do so.  Of course the parents did not rub in that fact …

We had a large number of people shoot their first candle flames ever.  So, with them plus repeat successful archers, big congratulations to:  Serenity Last (her dad failed to put one out), Georgia Stanley, Stella Fawcett, Oz Alves, Eden Baker, William Baker and Pam LeClair.

Our annual event is the distraction night activity built into advanced group lessons.  Other distraction night events include team rounds, shutting out sounds around you, and field archery.  For more information on advanced classes, please contact Kathleen Millar.

Serving Our Customers during COVID News Update

We continue to offer a safe environment for our retail customers and continue normal business hours.

Private lessons continue throughout the COVID-19 lockdown and recovery.  Please book a time with us during normal business hours.

Retail customers are advised to call for an appointment also.  In this way, we can control the number of people in the showroom at any given time.  If there are too many customers in the shop, then we ask you to wait in your vehicle and we will wave to you for your turn to enter.

The indoor lanes are closed for general target practice.  They are for use by our beginner students and retail customer bow set-up appointments only.  Outdoor lanes are available by appointment only.

USA-based archery manufacturers have closed down operations including PSE.  Asian manufactured products are subject to quarantine and are being delayed at the border.  Please be patient if you have special orders on-hold.  We will get the product to you as soon as we have it.

Group Session #4:  Kathy Millar has been in touch with pre-paid students who pre-registered.  Group class sizes have been reduced now to 4 persons, or 5 if there are families in the group.  If there is room in Session 4 classes for those who pre-registered but who did NOT pre-pay, then Kathy will be in touch with you directly to see if you are still interested in group lessons in September.

IMPORTANT:  Please use the hand-wipes and/or hand sanitizer spray bottle at the front door when you enter.  Continue to practice physical distancing.  Thank you and stay safe.

2020 Nutrition Challenge a Big Success

March is always Nutrition Month and in our Advanced Classes we always have a challenge in order to see who eats the most balanced, healthy diet over the course of one week.

We were able to get this done before shutting down classes for the pandemic.  Here are the highlights:

Grand Champion:  Garnett Last 840/910 points!  Congratulations!

Class winners:  Serenity Last 780, Robert Kerr 770, and Bill Mackey 770.

Special congratulations to Serenity who was the only person to score a perfect 130 in one day!

We will have our annual Nutrition Challenge celebration as soon as we can finish the last two classes of session #3.  Stayed tuned for more details.
