AWARDS CELEBRATION – COVID-19 STYLE FOR 2020!

On Saturday, September 26th we will be hosting our annual Awards Celebration for 2020.

We are excited to recognize all of our club, provincial and national participants.

But it’s 2020, so there will be differences:

  1. This event is by invitation only. You will receive an invitation directly via e-mail and/or via Canada Post.  There will be no other spectators.  Please see Point #3.
  2. The presentations will be held outdoors. We will have a pavilion in case of poor weather.  Please wear your mask at all times except for the actual presentation.
  3. Bring ONE family member with you in order to present you with your medal(s).
  4. There is no set time to arrive during the day between 9am to 4pm. Please identify yourself at the shop door and we’ll come out to organise the presentation, take your photo and give you some cake if you wish.
  5. We will create a photo collage on our website of all our participants who join us on September 26th.
  6. There will be individual pieces of cake, cut and plated according to COVID-19 guidelines. Kathy or Larry will give you the piece of cake directly in order to avoid cross-contamination.  When you eat your cake, please maintain at least 2m-distance between your family and any others present.  Please put your garbage in the waste bin provided.

NOTE:  SNAC has all the medals and certificates EXCEPT for provincial championship medals.  If you received one of these in the mail, PLEASE bring it/them along so that we can present them to you properly.

FYI:  MICA has been extended until the end of the year, so we will not be able to know club member results yet.

August 2020 – Here we go with year 38!

Quietly, without a lot of fanfare, we celebrated the start of our 38th year in business last week. That’s a pretty big accomplishment for a privately-owned, archery-only shop. There are not many of us left in the industry.
We would like to thank all our loyal customers and students for their support all through the years and will continue to offer you education, information and services in an accepting, welcoming environment.

4 x 720 weekend event success despite COVID-19

We are happy to announce that South Nation Archery Club is one of the first clubs in Canada to host a world-sanctioned event in the COVID-19 era!  With all the extra paperwork and measures in place, we were able to run our annual 4 x 720 weekend event in August instead of our normal mid-July dates.

The results are listed below and are on the Archery Canada website.

Congratulations to all our competitors; there were some PBs:

Durvishan Thananchayan shot 2 +560 scores

Kaity Horlock shot 680 and Robin shot really well, too!

Larry E. Smith set a new national record for Master’s +60 Fixed Pins with a 641.

All 2020 Ontario Provincial Championships CANCELLED

Friday, July 24th, 2020
The Archery Ontario Board of Directors (BOD), has been working with partners at local, regional, provincial and national levels to determine the best course of action for the 2020 scheduled provincial events. Early in this process, steps were taken to reschedule provincial events to a much later date than usual, with the hope that conditions surrounding Covid19 would allow for the safe and successful return to play and the hosting of these larger scale, provincially sanctioned archery events.

The BOD met on July 22nd and was unanimous in the passing of a motion to defer until 2021 the hosting of the 4 major provincial events (3D, Field, Target and Junior Challenge). Therefore, none of the events will take place this year. This is in keeping with our value of safety: the safety of organizers, officials, participants and spectators alike – ALL of our archery family!

What does this means for host clubs? They have the first opportunity to host next year and we ask that they please confirm via email to Kevin, if they choose to do so. We would be going back the usual calendar dates. If they choose not to do so, then the host club intended for 2021 will be the next in line to be eligible to host, it not, then the hosting of the event would be open to bidding at the Fall AGM.

Contributing factors that do not allow for us to move forward in this season: For example, the regions of the province are in various stages of re-opening; the public health officials of different regions have different guidelines to follow; the liability insurance is limited in the way it offers protection for host clubs in terms of liability (if someone were become ill from COVID while attending a provincial event, the host club could be held liable, even if a waiver were signed and there is a campaign underway so as to make this change in legislation, for the future); time constraints, additional equipment requirements and availability of large outdoor spaces that allow for proper social distancing, disinfecting practices and costs associated with cleanliness, PPE, etc.

* A reminder to clubs that Under the emergency order (still in place at the time of this message) and available here https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/r20223 the only persons permitted to use the facility are members of an organization, league or club. described in paragraph 34.4 of Schedule 2.
**For those who are looking to host their own local event, Clubs are required to comply with conditions in their applicable region/Public Health Unit, such as wearing a mask, limits on gathering size, physical distancing, stringent disinfecting and cleaning and having a contingency plan in place in the event that a participant is unwell and/ or displays symptoms while on the premises, etc. Keeping a list of the participants to do contact-tracing and being able to reach everyone to advise them, should a participant later develop the illness. These conditions will vary based on whether the region is in Stage 2 or Stage 3 of the Provincial re-opening framework.

We thank you (the membership) for your ongoing support and we look forward to a time when we can come together to participate safely in Archery – our sport for life! Respectfully,
Archery Ontario Board of Directors

Ontario Government Phase 2 COVID Guidelines and SNAS

FYI to our customers and students:  As well as all those provisions under Agriculture, plus what we were allowed to offer in Phase 1’s re-opening, here is some more good news!

Outdoor recreational facilities

Outdoor-only recreational facilities that operate low-contact attractions and activities will be allowed to reopen.

  • This includes activities such as paintball, mini-golf, archery ranges, go-cart tracks and other adventure activities.
  • Locker rooms, change rooms, showers and clubhouses will remain closed, except to the extent they provide access to a washroom or a portion of the facility that is used to provide first aid.
  • Indoor recreational activities are not permitted except for indoor driving ranges and rod and gun clubs.

We are able to maintain the 2m distancing rules.  We look forward to seeing you in the near future.

Session 4 classes will run in September – all are booked completely

The good news is:  we have been able to re-schedule 2020 Session #4 group lessons for advanced and beginner archers.  They will run starting the 3rd week in September.  Kathleen Millar will be sending out reminder e-mails after the Labour Day long weekend to all registered students/parents.

The bad news is:  Due to the COVID reduced number of students allowed in the indoor lanes, all classes have been filled.

We hope that the situation will settle down as we head into January 2021 and that we will be able to host beginner lessons again.

2020 Session #1 Advanced group lessons will be held November-December as usual.

Please note that no spectators will be allowed in the lanes, including parents, when we run group lessons.  Students will be asked to remain in their vehicles until the signal to enter has been given by a staff member.  Thank you for your patience as we sort out the “new normal”.

Birthday Parties During COVID-19

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and following Ontario government guidelines, we are suspending birthday party lessons until September 2020.  The only exemption to this are parties which comprise of one family only in attendance.

More information will be updated as Ontario completes its transition into phase 2 for all parts of the province.
